Update 2 - Feb 14, 2025 Valentine's Day dinner at Sansho we each tried the Sansho Gozen dinner. What a feast! It's like a multi course tasting menu. Started with miso soup and a small, refreshing dinner salad, followed shortly thereafter with the first of two bento boxes. Box 1 Had 5 pieces of sashimi (2 sockeye and 3 tuna), 3 nigiri (salmon, tuna, saba), one good size piece of agedashi tofu, mini sunomono and mini goma-ae. Before we finished this, the second box arrived with hot items: 3 pieces chicken karaage, miso black cod, 5 pieces tempura, chicken teriyaki. And a big bowl of rice. We had a second meal from the leftover chicken and rice! Really great for 37.95 and easily enough for two to share, which is what we'll do next time. Update 1. Sansho continues to maintain a high level of service and food quality. They were slammed by 6:00pm the other night and it's getting that a reservation is prudent, even for an early dinner. On our most recent visit we tried green tea zaru soba with tempura, the tempura was lightly coated and not a bit of grease. Excellent! Original review. Been here a few times in the past couple of months and everything has consistently been very good. Service is prompt and polite, prices are good value and ambience is nice. Our favourites are Agedashi Nasu, Spicy Agedashi Tofu, Salmon Kama, Negi-Toro roll and Spicy Tuna roll. Maki rolls are generous with the fillings and taste very fresh.

Went here for impromptu lunch with the family. The food was incredible, and very good value. Bright, open space, and there's a little viewing area to see the sushi prepared which the kids loved while we waited for our food (which wasn't very long, they were very quick)

Ever since my discovery of this hidden gem a few years ago, I have been coming here to savour my favourite sushi and other items! Special highlights: Anago Sushi, Blue Fin Tuna Sushi, Hamachi Kama just time name a few! Quality is always top notch and very fresh, I would also recommend their cooked items which are also outstanding!

Felt a lot like being back in Japan. They were very busy when we went, so service took a while, but they were very apologetic about it and I know they were working hard. The service was great, they were very friendly and even offered to deep fry my prawn head for me which was fun since I never had it prepared that way before (and it was actually pretty tasty). Sushi was really fresh and tasty with a nice presentation and fair prices.

Our family came here for a birthday dinner for our younger son. We had been recommended this place by a friend. It was very busy but we had made reservations based on their web site recommending it. They brought us some green tea but we could have also had water. We were seated in a booth which has high backs so you could not see the other tables, it felt more intimate. There was a 2 seater table near which was occupied later in our dinner. The service was great. We were seated quickly and asked if we would like something to drink. We all chose green tea which was brought out quickly. It did not take long for the food to be brought out and every so often someone would check how we were doing so the service was great! I had the Salmon Don which was Salmon Sashimi on top of Sushi Rice. The Salmon was delicious and there was quite alot of it! Our younger son and my wife had the Tempura & Sashimi. The Tempura was crispy and the Sashimi was smooth and flavourful! Our older son had a California Roll and assorted Nigri Sushi which he said was Really fresh! We would definitely eat here again!

Sansho is North Vancouver's hidden gem. The extensive menu is genuinely Japanese--it even includes natto! Sushi chefs work meticulously yet swiftly. Servers graciously greet and serve their repeat customers with warmth. Prices are reasonable and we can even log our visits toward a 10 discount--and this doesn't generate spam. Street parking in the quiet neighbourhood is appreciated. The only negative is that Sansho is very popular for dining in and for take-out, so you might have to wait if you show up without a reservation.

Stumbled on this delicious gem tucked into a neighborhood. Locals only, this place did not disappoint. Each roll was fresh and loaded with good quality fish. The sockeye salmon and yellow tail nigiri melted in your mouth not to mention the scallop roll. Parking is tight and it’s small inside but worth going off the beaten path.

This is really a suprise that one of the best Japanese restaurants actually located at a quiet neighborhood at Noth Vancouver. If it wasn't recommended by a friend, who is also a Japanese foodie, I wouldn't have discovered this. We ordered sashimi combo, deep fried squid appetizer, tonkatzu combo. Everything was oishiiiiii, so good! Always busy so reservation recommended.
